We talk with the 'Gladiator' between the sticks, Stefan Mascarenhas

The Bastion Insider:- Hi Stefan, you've had a distinguished career at Zoca, looking back what are your best personal memories and as a team?

Stefan Mascarenhas:- My best personal memory and as a team during my time at Zoca has to be when we beat 2nd Division Champions Koala, from 4-2 down and I bagged a Hat Trick. Not in my wildest dreams did I expect to do so and it helped us push for promotion. Definitely a moment I'll never forget.

The Bastion Insider:- What do you think are the key attributes to making a good keeper?

Stefan Mascarenhas:- The key attributes in making a good keeper is being able to know when to come out and when to stay. Being agile is key and not everyone can be a goalkeeper. Once you commit on a decision you need to stick with it and personally, what I would say is that you make your decision and don’t let others influence you. I’ve been a goalkeeper since I was young and I personally felt that I was good enough to become one of the best goalkeepers in Gibraltar.

"As a keeper, once you commit to a decision, stick with it"

The Bastion Insider:- Which player or players have you worked with best?

Stefan Mascarenhas:- The players I’ve worked well with most I would say, were from the team of two years ago, who helped me throughout games, Jamie Currer, Carl Linares, Giovanni Villa, they were there during the good times and bad times. Also Coaches Moe and Karl Ullger for the goal keeping trainings and the Gaffer for his moral support.

The Bastion Insider:- And finally who is better up front you or Podesta?

Stefan Mascarenhas:- Paul has the power and finish, but lacks my speed and my biggest issue is that I wasn't as fit, hence I stayed between the sticks, but in a one off tournament I would give Paul a run for his money ;). Paul is better striker than me, but I would score far better goals than him :p.
